It’s time! We’re making the switch from Summer to Fall. While it is still crazy hot outside, it’s important to gradually transition your closet into fall rather than going straight from mini skirts to puffer jackets. I’ve rounded up my top 5 tips for how to best transition your wardrobe from Summer to Fall!
Incorporate Fall Colors
One of the easiest ways to begin your transition into Fall is to wear warmer, deeper, Autumnal colors. Rich ochres and burnt oranges are always great traditional Fall colors. This season I’m also really gravitating towards saturated, rich plum and deep fuchsia shades as a fresh update. Swapping out your lighter pastel pieces for a richer palette allows you to still wear tanks, shorts, and dresses that will keep you cooler during the warm early Fall months.
Dress in Layers
Another simple way to transition to Fall is to find a few good staple layering pieces. Items such as shackets, lightweight cardigans, and leather jackets are all great pieces to throw over top of any outfit. One of my favorite pieces this year has been a simple white button-down shirt. Mine is lightweight enough to roll up and keep in my purse during the day and throw over top of a dress or tank top in the evening when it gets chillier. I also always get super cold in restaurants with AC, so it’s a great piece to have in those cases too! I really want a satin one… I’ll link a few below in the “shop it” slider below this post in case you’re in the market for one as well.
Choose One: Legs or Arms
Instead of covering your arms and your legs (i.e. wearing long jeans with a long sleeve shirt), I try to cover either the arms or the legs to make sure I don’t get too hot during the early Fall months. I’ll wear my wide leg denim with a tank top, or wear a shorter dress with a cardigan or button-down over top. This balance almost always keeps me at the perfect temp!
Incorporate Fall Shoes
It’s time to dig out those boots from storage! Begin adding close-toed shoes to your outfits and wear less open-toed sandals and heels. My go-to transition shoes this Fall will be my cowboy boots. I have worn them all summer with dresses and shorts, so they will be a perfect natural transition item to fall to pair with jeans and longer dresses.
Wear Tights
Tights are a simple add-on to any dress or skirt. Patterned tights can add an extra level of interest to your outfit. After the last couple of seasons have been saturated with those Gucci tights, I think patterned tights are here to stay for another season! In my opinion, you can never go wrong with a simple pair of sheer black tights. So Rachel Green-esque!
