Valentine’s Day Nails

February 14, 2021

Happy Valentine’s Day! I’ve been seeing super cute nail designs popping up on my social media lately, especially V-Day inspired ones. I thought I’d give one a try! Although I think the red/pink combo is perfect for Valentine’s Day, you could change up the colors very easily for a more everyday look. I think nude with different colored tips on each finger is also very cute!

I have been doing dip powder nails for about 2 years now, and love how strong it makes my nails. I actually bought all the supplies about a year ago when salons began to close for COVID, and have mastered my at-home dip mani!

Believe it or not, I did this Valentine’s look with dip at home too. Here’s how:

1. I used two layers of a very light pink dip powder all over the nail to start, and waited a couple of minutes before proceeding to allow this base to dry.

2. I carefully painted a thin layer of my clear gel on the tips where I wanted the red to be, and then gently dipped only that top portion into the red dip powder. Since I allowed the pink base to fully dry and I didn’t dip my whole nail into the red, this really helped prevent any bleeding between the two colors.

3. While the red tip was still wet/malleable, I was able to use one of my nail tools to gently push at any uneven edges to really crisp up the line between the red and pink. Again, since the pink had fully dried, this did not harm the pink base.

4. As usual, you must file down the top of your nail once you’ve applied your final layer of dip before you add the top coat. This prevents any bumps or unevenness. It doesn’t harm your natural nail at all since your whole nail is covered in the dip. Since I was really trying to prevent the colors from bleeding together, I made sure to only file from left to right on the nail to prevent any red filed dust from falling into the pink. Finally, I finished it off as normal with the super dry sealer and two glossy top coats. I couldn’t believe I pulled it off!

I purchased all my dip products at the links below. Since I got my nails done in a salon for awhile before doing them at home, I knew the names of the brands that seemed to work best for me. If you have access to a professional distributor of the SNS products, I would definitely recommend purchasing those rather than the links provided below to be sure they are the best quality. But I have never had any issues with the products I’ve bought so far 🙂
